World-famous for flamingos and one of Kenya's best rhino sanctuaries. Drive up to Baboon Cliff for a sunrise view over the lake — minutes from town.

One of the largest volcanic craters in the world, right on Nakuru's doorstep. Hike the rim and take in sweeping Rift Valley views.

A short drive from Nakuru: hot springs, geysers and more flamingos along the Great Rift Valley lake chain. Perfect for a post-race day trip.

Further afield
Kenya's most famous safari country, a few hours' drive south-west of Nakuru via Narok. Lions, cheetahs, elephants and great herds of plains game roam the open savanna all year.
The Great Migration usually crosses the Mara between about July and October, but March is a quieter, greener time to visit with excellent game viewing. Allow at least two nights to make the trip worthwhile, and book lodges or camps ahead.
Pair it with race weekend: see the 5-day plan below.
